A Closer Look: Cats beat the Bears

The Cats got a small manner of revenge. They were upset by the Golden Bears a year ago in Berkeley and the Cats felt that Richard Midgley got away with a cheap shot that took Salim Stoudamire out of his game. Despite holding Stoudamire to just six points, the Bears never had a chance after the Cats rattled off an 11-0 second half run.

PLAYER OF THE GAME
Channing Frye had 18 points and eight rebounds. He was effective from long range, which really opened things up for the rest of the team. He also added three blocks.

PLAY OF THE GAME
Yet another Hassan Adams alley-oop slam. This time Mustafa Shakur lobs a high pass that Hassan elevates to grab and jams a two handed slam, with a Cal defender right there.

TURNING POINT
After Cal took their first lead since the opening minute, Arizona goes on an 11-0 run that seals the game.

HIGH FASHION
Arizona wore their red uniforms for the first time since 2001. That season the Cats were 1-5 in their alternate uniform that season and Lute Olson retired the look. Apparently the team talked Olson into breaking them out this season and so far, so good.

GOOD SIGN
Arizona is now 13-3 in games where Frye scores 20 or more points a game.

ANOTHER GOOD SIGN
The last two games in which Salim Stoudamire has been held to one shot the Wildcats have won. He got off one shot against Utah and had the same struggle against Cal. Both games were announced by Steve Physioc on Fox Sports.

THE SERIES
The Cats hold a 44-24 lead in the all time series. They are 20-15 in games played at Berkeley.

HERE'S THE SCORE
Five Wildcats scored in double figures and Matt Brase was the only Wildcat who played that failed to score. He played just two minutes. The Cats shot 54.4%, 60.7% in the decisive second half.

Arizona scored 87 points. The Bears had been allowing just 61.7 points a game but could not control the tempo and had no answer to Arizona's running game.

MISSING IN ACTION
Both Leon Powe and Ayinde Ubaka sat out the game with injuries. Ubaka could return as early as next week. Powe is out for the year with a knee injury.

STREAKS
Arizona has now won nine games in a row.
