Game Talk: Arizona Dominates California

Arizona came into this game ready to play and dominated Cal in every aspect. The players were proud of their performances following the game.

Head Coach Lute Olson

On the Game:

"The main point was to get out from the start on them. With the reserves we did well. Overall, Mustafa [Shakur] had a great game. Hassan [Adams] had four assists, those are things you have to do. He had some nice passes and didn't have the five turnovers he had been having for the past few games."

"I thought our guys came out of the locker room ready."

On Winning at Home:

"I had Jack Murphy put the scores up from the 87-88 season where games were over in the first 10 minutes. We put them on their lockers before the game."

On the Players:

"We just can't afford mental breakdowns."

On Salim Stoudamire:

"Salim's leadership is becoming more and more obvious over time."

On Bret Brielmaier:

"Bret plays so hard. Bret played hard, and he always plays hard."

Senior Guard Salim Stoudamire:

On the Game:

"Guys were making hard cuts, and other people saw that. That is a sign of a good team."

On Being a Leader:

"If someone is doing something that someone else doesn't agree with, then we (Channing Frye and Stoudamire) pull them aside. We weren't doing that enough before. I told Channingy (Frye) to step it up."

On his Performance:

"I tried to establish myself early in the game. I didn't do that against Washington State, and I didn't have a rhythm."

On Stanford:

"Expect a fight…we need to come out focused like tonight."

Senior Center Channing Frye:

On the Game:

"It comes down to the beginning of the game. We have to set the tone so we can go where we want to go."

"We wanted to come out, make a statement, and reestablish what it means to play at home."

"I thought we played extremely well. The zone is new to us, but guys were getting their hands on the ball. We got some good picks from that."

On Changes:

"We need to go out and have fun. We didn't do that last Saturday, and that's why we lost."

On the Intensity:

"The intensity to be honest I think started on Monday."

On Stanford:

I'm already thinking about Stanford. I'll go home and watch some tape. I have the ASU game on Tivo. I'm going to come out and try to have a good game and be ready from the start."

Sophomore Guard Mustafa Shakur

On the Game:

"We shared the ball from start to finish. Our big guys were finishing, and Salim (Stoudamire) was hot as usual. I still think we can improve in some areas. We made some mental mistakes on the defensive end, but it was a good game for us."

"We really shared the ball, we didn't force things."

"Everyone came out focused because of the loss last week. We need to come out like that every game. We had to come out that way. Our intensity level was big. Everyone played together."

On Stanford:

"Our intensity level is going to be there."
