Wildcat signee posts double-double in tourney

Wildcat Fendi Onobun had a double-double in helping his Alief Taylor Lions to a 64-62 win in the first round of the Texas state playoffs.

Onobun had 18 points and 15 rebounds in a game that saw Taylor win on a last second three-pointer by post play Martellus Bennett. Bennett was supposed to be down low, but saw an opening that would allow him to sneak unguarded to the top of the key.

The Lions led by 12 at the start of the fourth quarter, but committed six turnovers and Bush took advantage, eventually taking a 59-56 lead with just over 2:00 to play.

Onobun and Bennett hit back-to-back buckets and put the Lions up one. Onobun then made one-of-two free throws that gave his team a 61-59 lead.

The lead would not last as Bush's Troy Phillips drained a three with 20 seconds to go.

That's when things got a bit crazy. Alief Taylor took the inbounds and was prompted by their coach to attack. Confused by the coach's screams and the crowd noise, an official somehow thought that the Lions wanted a timeout. After things were sorted out, the referees awarded both teams a full timeout.

Following the timeouts Bennett hit the game winner to send the Lions to the second round.
