Recruiting 2002: Quarterback

Quarterback did not appear to be a pressing need a few months ago, but after the defection of John Rattay and Cliff Watkins, the position becomes critical. The Cats have brought in a very good quarterback in the form of Ryan O'Hara.

Ryan O'Hara

HT: 6-5
WT: 200
40: 4.69
Rank: #26 QB (****)
Home: Pasadena, CA(Muir HS)

The first player to commit to Arizona this season. He is the type of pure, top-tier quarterback that Arizona has struggled to recruit. O'Hara is an impressive signal caller that amazed coaches at the Nike Camp with his size and athleticism. Has a strong arm, and can get the ball down the field. Very elusive outside the pocket and reminds some scouts of a young Drew Bledsoe. O'Hara is tall but could stand to gain some weight. He is surprisingly mobile for a quarterback his size. O'Hara has been instrumental in attracting other recruits to this class. His rankings dropped a bit as he did not put up gaudy numbers in a very balanced offensive system.

"It's where I felt most comfortable," O'Hara said. "I loved everything about it (Arizona). I've been to a lot of schools, a lot of top notch schools, and I liked Arizona the best."

Next season: O'Hara will battle Nic Costa for the back-up quarterback job. He is the type of tall, mobile quarterback that Mackovic loves, but he lacks the experience that Costa has. At worst he is the # 3 guy and on the travel squad.
