The UA Players Speak Out

Arizona received a number three seed following a loss to Washington in the Pac-10 Championship. A win over the Huskies could have assured them a one seed entering the tournament. Cat Tracks was on hand for the player's comments the following morning.

Senior Guard Salim Stoudamire

On Washington's Number One Seed:

"I thought that is we would have won, we would have gotten a number one seed, but I'm kind of glad we didn't because that bracket is tough."

On the Loss to Washington:

"You definitely have to look at it (as a stepping off point)."

On Differences with the Tournament:

"Everybody's watching and your adrenaline's pumping."

On the Altitude Affecting His Asthma:

"I don't think Boise will affect me but places like Albuquerque really affect me. I remember two years ago when we played there I was constantly using my inhaler."

On Gimmick Defenses:

"I've been facing that all season."

Senior Center Channing Frye:

On the Freshmen:

"I think right now, especially with Jawann (McClellan) and Jesus (Verdejo), they are already sophomores. There are three seasons in a year. There is the pre-season, Pac-10 season, and the tournament season. Right now they know their role, and that they need to be aggressive. They need to go out there and give it their all and I think that's what they've been doing."

On the Loss to Washington:

"We just see what we need to work on and take it as a learning experience. I think we've moved on from that right now. I think we looked at it and said, ‘it's ok,' but we have all new things to think about. You can't dwell on it. We just need to focus on Utah St."

On This Being His Final Tourney:

"I'm on a one game season right now. The only game I'm worried about is Utah St…I'm ready to go, and I think people need to realize that this is life or death for our team right now. This is the most important part of my life right now."

On the Seeding:

"If you win you get a one, if you lose you get anything less than that. So 2-16, I think as long as we are in the tournament we have a chance to win. I don't really care what our seed was to be honest."

Freshman Guard Jawann McClellan

On His First March Madness:

"I've been wanting to come here for a long, long time. I remember watching Khalid Reeves and Damon Stoudamire. I never dreamed or thought that I'd be playing in the tournament especially for a school that I've wanted to go to for so long."

On Utah State:

"The only thing I know about Utah State is that they beat Utah right before they played us, so you can't play them cheap. You can't play anybody cheap in this tournament. No matter who you play, they come ready. We've got Arizona across our chests, and I know their excited to play."

Sophomore Forward Ivan Radenovic

On Salim Stoudamire:

"I think that we expect too much from him and someone else should help him out at least a little bit."

Junior Guard Hassan Adams

On the Washington Loss:

"Yeah it was just one of those games. Salim (Stoudamire) was in his groove, but then we felt like we couldn't really help him out. Mustafa (Shakur) really wasn't there, Channing (Frye) really wasn't there until late in the games. With me, I wasn't there so it was just one of those games."

On the Differences from Last Year:

"We are a lot more focused, a lot deeper, everybody's on the same page. As with last you, you know, the depth last year was kind of hard, but everybody's focusing, everybody's on the same page, and everybody's trying to get it done."
