Baseball wins in dramatic fashion

Arizona continues to win with pitching. Staff ace Sean Rierson pitched a complete game shutout and Moises Duran hit a ninth inning walk-off home run to lead the Cats to a 1-0 win over San Diego State.

Rierson outduelled Aztec starter Chris Dunwell in a game that saw the two hurlers combine for 16 strikeouts. Rierson struck out nine while walking none to pick up his third win on the year against no defeats.

Dunwell's 122nd pitch proved to be his last. Duran took the pitch to right field and the ball just cleared the outfield fence to get the win. The loss was Duwell's first decision of the year.

Arizona's last 1-0 victory came almost 10 years ago on February 28, 1992, against USC in Los Angeles. Former Wildcat Tim Schweitzer went the distance against the Trojans on the strength of a four hitter.

The Cats improved to 8-1 on the season. They will play two more games against the Aztecs.
