Tourney Log: If I could be like Nate

BOISE – The Chalupa Dome was rocking as several thousand Husky fans came out to support their team. The Huskies led most of the game and proved that they were indeed worthy of a number one seed.

1:05 p.m.
Just watched Gonzaga choke away their game at McKale. Down two with less than 20 seconds to play they call a timeout. What play do they draw up? Not a play to Turiaf. Not a pick and roll for Morrison or Raivio. No, they let Morrison take his man off the dribble and launch an off-balance three with over 10 seconds left.

1:17 p.m.
How's this for an easy to pronounce starting line-up: Maraker, Korajkic, Yango, Doubley and Mihailovic. I hope the Pacific play-by-play crew gets paid extra. By comparison the Huskies start the relatively easy Jones, Jensen, Simmons, Robinson and Conroy.

1:22 p.m.
The UW fans are out in force. With spring break starting on Friday, a lot more students are here. They are loud and energized. On a good note, it looks as if there are nearly as many Arizona fans in the building right now as there were for the Utah State game. It will be interesting to see who the Washington fans pull for.

1:29 p.m.
We have a better vantage point for both cheerleading crews. Pacific's are all wearing uniforms that show off their mid-riffs and all but one have bellies. Maybe I just didn't notice them on Thursday or else Boise had better buffets than I noticed. The UW cheerleaders have no such problem. They appear to be quite fit.

1:32 p.m.
The Husky fans love their Bobby Jones. He just got a standing ovation when Romar subbed for him with 13:40 left in the first half.

1:34 p.m.
I'd love to see Nate Robinson, Will Bynum and Earl Boykins team-up in a 3-on-3 Tournament.

1:44 p.m.
How's this for good coaching, Pacific has attacked the inside on every possession since Mike Jensen went out with his third foul. Maraker is having a field day down low. Maraker is like the Swedish version of Jensen, who I still think is the son of Ivan Drago.

2:00 p.m.
I'm thinking the Pacific Powercat does not like girls. He was sleeping while the Washington cheerleaders were dancing. I would say that most red-blooded American males would be interested in watching the Washington cheerleaders dance.

2:40 p.m.
I love Nate. Seriously, he is just so freaking good. On the last possession he came sprinting in from beyond the arc to grab the rebound and lay it in all in one move.

2:54 p.m.
One of the Washington bench players bears a striking resemblance to one of their male cheerleaders. They both sport identical ‘90210' haircuts. Sadly the cheerleader looks a bit more athletic.

2:57 p.m.
I've decided that when I grow up I want to be Nate Robinson. So I am older, shorter and of a different ethnicity, a guy can dream can't he? Yes, you read that right, I am indeed shorter than Nate Robinson.

3:09 p.m.
The Pacific band finally plays ‘Eye of the Tiger', shouldn't that be their fight song? Seriously, it has to be better than the real one. If it was good enough for Rocky Balboa it is good enough for Pacific.

3:10 p.m.
Isn't Pacific a really misnamed school? Last I heard Stockton, CA is several hours away from the Ocean. Then again, we are on the campus of Boise STATE University. Last time I checked Boise had not been granted statehood.

3:12 p.m.
3:20 p.m.
Do you think Mike Jensen randomly gets into people's faces and says "I must break you." in a bad Russian accent? I think he does. If I bore as strong a resemblance to Dolph Lungren as Jensen does, I think I would milk it for all it is worth.

3:26 p.m.
It is over and the Huskies are the first Pac-10 team to advance to the Sweet-16. Hopefully they aren't the last.

3:29 p.m.
UW fans show conference loyalty and start chanting "Let's go ‘Zona".
