Game Talk: Salim Does It Again

CHICAGO-Arizona fought hard and defeated Oklahoma State in the game's final seconds. Cat Tracks was on hand to get all the thoughts from the lockerroom.

Head Coach Lute Olson

On the Game:

"Tonight was one heck of a basketball game…If no one cared who won or lost the game, it was a tremendous game between two good teams. Both teams showed tremendous determination and intensity…they (OSU) hurt us on the boards and we turned it over too much, but our team is filled with great competitors and I'm really, really proud of my team tonight."

On Salim Stoudamire:

"Salim Stoudamire played an outstanding game tonight…he shot 3-for-4 from the three point line and was 7-for-11 from the field overall and he had seven assists and no turnovers, plus he passed the ball extremely well and got the ball to the open man…Salim is a pressure player."

On the Winning Shot:

"We wanted to get Salim an opening and we had Channing come up to set the screen…there is no one I would much rather hit that shot than Salim…I wanted the ball in the hands of one of our two seniors at the end of the game."

On Illinois:

"It should be another good game…Illinois has three good guards and we better be able to get back on defense. It should be a great match-up. We knew coming here that if you wanted to get to St. Louis and the Final Four, you needed to go through Illinois."

Senior Guard Salim Stoudamire

On Hitting the Game Winner:

"I practice shooting pressure shots like that at the end of practice everyday…I crossed over OSU and took a baseline jumper and it went in."

On Wanting to Take the Last Shot:

"I live for that moment, I want to be the one who is able to take that shot."

On His Foul Trouble:

"It concerned me…I couldn't be as aggressive as I normally am, but I had trust in my teammates and I was able to play through the foul problems."

On Hassan Adams' Performance:

"Hassan was not trying to force the issue tonight…he didn't force shots or force things and was patient tonight."

Junior Guard Hassan Adams

On His Performance:

"I was focused on playing aggressive tonight…at this stage of the season, it's lose or go home, so I had to step up tonight, especially after Salim (Stoudamire) picked up three fouls."

Junior Guard Chris Rodgers

On Oklahoma State:

"Oklahoma State is a very good team. They were not a #2 seed for nothing. They were very physical and we knew it would be a fight to the finish."

On the Team:

"Our maturity, team chemistry and execution late in games have been important for us this year. We know we have people we can go to at the end of games to make shots."

On the Game:

"Tonight was a big-time game. In the Sweet 16 playing for the Elite 8 and we had everyone step up tonight."

On Hassan Adams:

"Hassan causes match-up problems for our opponents. He is a 3-4 guy and really explosive and he came up with a big game."

Sophomore Guard Mustafa Shakur

On the Game Winning Shot:

"Salim (Stoudamire) stepped up and hit a big shot. Channing (Frye) also stepped up for us and hit a couple of big buckets down the stretch."

On Hassan Adams:

"Hassan played great tonight. He stepped it up emotionally and physically for us and had a huge game."

Freshman Guard Jawann McClellan

On Salim Stoudamire:

"I call him Mr. Clutch. When he got the ball I was confident that he would make the shot."

On Illinois:

"They really respect the game. They play hard and play together and even though they have been blowing people out this year they really expect the game."

On Playing in a Hostile Environment Saturday:

"We have played in a lot of hostile environments this year, including Washington. We are just going to go out and play ball and try to get to the Final Four."
