Maryvale Athlete Demetrius Stewart

On the high school level, it is not too tough to find two-way stars, but three-way stars are very rare. That is what Maryvale High has in <b>Demetrius Stewart</b>. He is a starting receiver, safety and punter and was named all-league on defense and special teams. UA is in his top three.

As a junior, Demetrius Stewart had 17 catches for over 300 yards and one touchdown. On defense, at strong safety, he had 20 tackles, two interceptions, and one fumble recovery. As a punter, he averaged 43 yards per. Stewart was named first team all-league at punter and second team all-league at defensive back.

"I am a hard worker that likes to involve everyone around me," he says.

Maryvale Head Football Coach Tom Bruney says of Stewart, "He is one of the best football players we've had here. He might be our best two-way player. He is good in the slot on offense and has great range on defense. He is like a center fielder out there."

The athlete is originally from Torrance, California and says that the U of A kind of reminds him of home. "It rains more down there than it does in Phoenix. We went down there to play Canyon Del Oro last year so I am kind of familiar with it. Arizona is in my top three right now with Arizona State and USC. USC is my favorite."

Stewart is also hearing from Illinois, Georgia Tech, Oregon State, and Notre Dame. He has interest in all of these schools.

He recently attended the ASU Junior Day and will attend the combine in L.A., May 14th.

Stewart carries a 2.3 core GPA and will be taking the SAT on June 4th. He would like to major in Biology.
