Deane, Cats go in a different direction

Daniel Deane's list entering April was pretty impressive. Home-state Utah, UCLA, Gonzaga, Arizona, Oregon and Stanford. You can add another power into the equation - and this one put forth an offer during a school visit on Tuesday.

Daniel Deane wasn't all that happy with his performance in Las Vegas two weeks ago. The hard-working Judge Memorial (Utah) rising senior forward didn't get in the flow offensively.

However, he came back strong this past weekend in Houston at the Kingwood Classic – and has already reaped the rewards with an offer from Kansas.

``Coach (Bill) Self watched my first game in Houston and then he went to more of my games," Deane said. "He flew out today (Tuesday) and offered me a scholarship."

``I was really shocked," Deane added. "He had never seen me play before last week."

Now Deane boasts offers from the Jayhawks, Stanford, Oregon, UCLA, Utah and Gonzaga.

Arizona, which at one point resided fairly high on his list, was recently eliminated after the two sides came to a conclusion that it wasn't going to be a good fit. Deane also recently told USC that he was set with his current group of schools.

Deane has already set up a visit to Stanford for May 5 – and he's hoping to set one up for Kansas in the near future.

Deane will head to the adidas Memorial Day Tournament in Maryland and then play in Las Vegas and Los Angeles in July.
