Top Six For Pondexter

Quincy Pondexter has a top six, with two Pac-10 schools at the top of his list...

Quincy Pondexter, 6-7 JR SF Fresno (Calif.) San Joaquin Memorial, is one of the elite small forwards in the west, with perhaps the best upside of the group.

We spoke with Pondexter last night and he told us he has a list of six schools at this time.

"Arizona, Washington, Oregon, Kansas, UConn and Georgia Tech are the ones I'm really interested in," said Pondexter. "Arizona and Washington are the two leaders right now."

Pondexter said a couple coaches have been out to his high school recently.

"Coach Romar came out to see me," said Pondexter. "And Coach Olson came out yesterday."

We asked Pondexter about scholarship offers and he replied, "Arizona and Washington are the two that have offered."

When questioned about the timing of his decision, Pondexter said, "Originally, I thought I was going to have decided by now. But then I sort of reconsidered. Now I think I'll make a decision before July."

Pondexter told us he has a 2.75 GPA and he'll take the SAT on June 5th.

CAT TRACKS' ANALYSIS: Just a few months ago it appeared as if Pondexter was ready to drop. He still likes Arizona a lot, but we wonder if the Cats have subtly been trying to hold him of or if Pondexter wants to see who else could offer after a strong summer. It could be a combination of both.
