Cactus Quarterback Jon Tobin

Jon Tobin is one of the top returning quarterbacks in the state this year. He led Cactus to the state title game last fall only to lose to Moon Valley. He was named second team all-region as a junior and has the Cats as one of his top five schools.

As a junior, Jon Tobin threw for 1,600 yards and 13 touchdowns. He rushed for 255 yards and ten touchdowns. He threw 11 interceptions and had a 42 percent completion rate. Tobin was named second team all-region. "I love being competitive," he says. "I hate to settle for second because if you do that, you have lost. My coach says I am a great leader. I love getting dirty out on the field. I always play hard."

The signal caller has only been playing tackle football for three years so he has a lot of upside. Last year was his first as a starter although he has been playing varsity ball since his freshman year. caught up with Tobin Monday night after he had just received his first call from a college this month. "I just got off the phone with Wyoming. They are showing me a lot of interest right now."

The Cowboys are on his top schools' list with four others. "I like them, UTEP, Arizona, New Mexico State, and Colorado. I don't have a favorite right now. They are all sending me a lot of mail."

Schools to come by Cactus this month include Nevada, Oregon, UCLA, Colorado, and Arizona State.

Tobin loves what Mike Stoops is doing in Tucson. "He is a great guy that is determined to win. I think he will go as far as he can to make them a winner."

This summer, he will attend one-day camps at Colorado, Arizona and Arizona State. Tobin will also be in attendance Saturday at the All-American Combine in Los Angeles.

He carries a 2.7 core GPA and took the SAT over the weekend. Tobin would like to major in Fire Science or Law.
