John Romero Jr. Update

John Romero Jr. is considered one of the top three lineman in the Grand Canyon State this fall. It is a very good year for the position, especially on the defensive side of the ball. He is up to four offers now and it sounds like many more are coming his way. UA is all over him and the Cats are still one of his top schools

John Romero Jr. now has written offers from Arizona, Arizona State, UTEP, and Houston. "My top five are the in-state schools, UTEP, Cal, and Michigan. I also like Colorado and Utah. I do not have a favorite."

Over the last two weeks, Salpointe has been visited by UA, ASU, Cal, Michigan, Michigan State, CU and Oregon. The Lancers possess three seniors-to-be that have already been offered in linebacker Ben Thiltges, defensive end/tight end Andrew Berryhill and Romero Jr. Although the crown jewel of the current roster may be junior-to-be offensive lineman, Kris O'Dowd. O'Dowd was recently offered by the Sun Devils. He is expected to be the top player in Arizona next year and could potentially already be the top prospect and he is not even a junior yet.

Schools see the lineman playing on either side. "Cal has told me they like me on offense. U of A and ASU say they could play me on either side and would just start me out where they need me the most at the time. Colorado wants me to play defense. It really doesn't matter to me what side of the ball I play on."

Romero Jr. says that his dad is leaning a bit towards Cal while his mom would prefer either of the in-state schools. "There are advantages and disadvantages to staying in-state."

The two schools that seem like they'll be the next to offer are Utah and Colorado. "I have heard Utah is going to offer and I know Colorado is very interested."

Romero Jr. is going to be a "predictor". That means he has some work to do in the classroom before he becomes qualified. He currently carries a 2.3 core GPA and is taking the SAT, June 4th. Sources close to the situation believe that he will become qualified as he is well on his way.
