Cats one win from Super Regional

You knew it would not be as easy the second time out. After a 12-0, no-hit win over Lehigh, the Wildcat softball team would have a tougher time against Oklahoma State in the second game of the NCAA Tournament.

The Cats used another great pitching performance to down Oklahoma State 3-0. Starter Alicia Hollowell did not allow a baserunner until the seventh inning. She struck out 11 Cowgirls in notching the win.

The Cats struck early. Lead off hitter Caitlin Lowe reached on an error and was sacrificed to second by the next batter, Autumn Champion. Kristie Fox singled Lowe home for a 1-0 lead.

The Cats got back on the board. Fox walked and was again sacrificed to second. A single brought her home for the second time. This time it was Shelly Schultz with the timely hit.

"My swing is coming around at the right time. Everything is starting to come together for us at the right time. I'm just doing whatever I can."

The Wildcats capped the scoring when Jackie Coburn singled home Schultz in the sixth.

The Cats had chances to blow the game wide open, but stranded 12 baserunners. The Cowgirls got two basehits in the final inning, but Hollowell pitched out of the jam.

The Cats face Oklahoma State again. The Cowgirls will have to take two games from Arizona to advance, while the Wildcats need just one win to go to next week's Super Regional.
