Stud Texas LB likes three

Always looking to add depth to an already seemingly deep linebacking corps is a priority for the Arizona coaches this recruiting cycle. With guys like Adrian McCovey and Xavier Kelley due in Tucson early next month, the Cats are likely to add one or two more backers in the 2006 class.

One of the early studs that Stoops & Co. has extended an offer to is Shepherd, Texas High School standout Fred Garrin. According to Garrin he has four offers and possibly more on the way.

"I have offers from Arizona, UTEP, Iowa State and Tulane so far," said the 6-foot-2 inch, 215 pound Garrin. "I am also getting mail from a bunch of other schools like Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma and LSU."

According to Garrin, he likes three schools the most right now, but as always, that is subject to change.

"Right now I like Arizona, Missouri and Iowa State the most I would say," he said. "I also like the other schools but I like those three a little more right now."

When it comes to Arizona, Garrin admits that he does not know a whole lot about the school, the program or the city.

"I really don't know anything yet," he remarked. "I have talked to coach (Eric) Wolford and he is a cool guy. I know all about Mike Stoops because I watched him at Oklahoma but other than that I don't really know a lot."

This summer Garrin plans on camping at a few schools close to home and just working hard for his senior season.

"I think I am going to go to camps at Texas, LSU, UTEP and I will probably get to the U of H (Houston) camp too," he said.

When it comes to his decision, according to Garrin distance form home will not be a factor at all.

"Obviously it would be cool to stay close to home but distance won't really matter that much," he said. "I just want to get a good education and play football."

During his junior season at Shepherd, Garrin put up some good numbers from his linebacker position.

"I had like 80 tackles I think," he said. "I had three sacks, three forced fumbles and one interception."

Garrin has a 2.8 GPA, he takes the SAT on June 4th and he would like to major in either Psychology or Criminal Justice in college.
