Texas corner likes the Cats

With the Wildcats returning two solid cornerbacks from a year ago, both of whom are still just sophomores, the Cat coaches could conceivably only take one cornerback in the 2006 recruiting class. But that just won't happen. Although both Cason and Fontenot are just coming out of their freshman years, there is not a ton behind them at the cornerback position so the coaches should be looking to add two more corners this year.

The Wildcats picked a very good year to need two cornerbacks. This year there could be ten, yes I said T-E-N, 4 star or better cornerbacks out of the state of Texas and it is clear that the coaches have taken notice of the corner talent in the recruiting hotbed.

One such prospect is Dallas Skyline cornerback Roderick Rollins. Rollins is over 15 offers so far and the Cats were one of the first ones in the door.

"Arizona offered me a long time ago," said the 6-foot Rollins. "I have liked them from the beginning. Coach Mark Stoops sends me a lot of letters and I like the letters that he sends. I have talked to him a few times on the phone and he seems like a real cool guy. He is a very energetic person and he is just a guy that is really easy for me to relate to."

The Arizona coaching staff may have an ace up their sleeve with Rollins as one of his former teammates just arrived on the Tucson campus not four weeks ago to begin voluntary workouts.

"I know that Garrett (Fields, Defensive End/Tackle) really likes it out there," Rollins said. "He has told me about the University some. I haven't talked to him for a while but I will, I know he really likes it out there though."

So far this summer Rollins admitted that he has only attended one camp but said that he wants to take at least one unofficial visit this summer.

"I went to the Oklahoma camp and their coaches said that I should have an offer by my first game," he said. "That is the only place I have gone this summer. I have just been home working out a lot. I think I am going to take an unofficial visit to Arizona though, maybe even next week. The coaches have been wanting me to come down for a visit so I have to talk to my coach and my parents to see what we are going to do. I want to visit Arizona."

As far as a list of favorites, Rollins has a top 5 at this time and he also has a few others schools that he is still researching and considering.

"My top 5 is Arizona, Boston College, Kansas State, OSU (Oklahoma State) and Minnesota," Rollins added. "Minnesota was the latest school to offer me and I have been in contact with their coaches. I have also been in contact with Coach Elliott from Kansas State and obviously Coach (Mark) Stoops from Arizona. Those are the three main coaches that I have talked to. I also have some interest in Baylor, Arizona State and Indiana, plus (Texas) A&M wants me to come down there and work out so they can get a better look at me I guess."

CatTracks will keep you up to date on Rollins as his summer continues, especially when the talented cornerback hits Tucson.
