Cowboys rope Gonzaga

ALBUQUERQUE, NM—All week long the nation complained about Gonzaga receiving a six seed despite winning 29 games. The forgotten team in the equation was Wyoming, the Mountain West regular season champion and 21 game winner. Make that 22. The Cowboys pulled off the shocker and beat the Bulldogas 73-66.

Gonzaga struggled from the field, hitting only 26.8% of their shots. Despite dominating the offensive glass the Bulldogs could not generate enough offense to slip by the Cowboys.

All-American Dan Dickau had a miserable game, despite scoring 26 points, he hit just seven of 24 shots.

Josh Davis was the rock for Wyoming. The senior forward scored 11 points, pulled down 14 rebounds and swatted away five Zag shots. He was huge down the stretch, dunking a put-back and then rejecting Dickau the very next possession.

Wyoming played the slow down game and limited possessions. They survived the miserable night on the offensive boards because of aggressive defense and poor Gonzaga shooting. Even with the 22 offensive boards, Gonzaga won the rebounding battle just 44-42.

Wyoming got balanced scoring and shot an impressive 50%. Five Cowboys scored in double figures lead by Uche Nsonwu-Amadi's 14.

Gonzaga led 60-56, but the Cowboys outscored the Zags 17-6 down the stretch, connecting on 15-of-16 free throws.
