UC-Wilmington bounced USC. Kent State, everyone's Cinderella, upset Oklahoma State. Both teams advance to round two. The rest of the East Bracket remains in tact.
No. 1 Duke vs Notre Dame – The Irish, a decent but great team in a very weak Big East Conference, beat a bad Charlotte team. If Notre Dame keeps this game close, I'll be surprised. Duke by a lot!!!
No. 2 Alabama vs No. 10 Kent State – The Golden Flashes have won an opening game at the Tournament for the second straight year and could be the Gonzaga of the year's event. Demetrius Shaw and Trevor Huffman give Kent State a legitimate one-two punch and the Crimson Tide is yet another overrated team from the overrated Southeast Conference. The Golden Flashes will play Lexington next week and the Tide watches the Tournament on TV. Kent State by eight.
No. 5 Indiana vs No. 13 UNC-Wilmington – Wilmington played the game of its life to upset USC while the Hoosiers had a relatively easy time with Utah. The Hoosier will have just as much success against Wilmington. Indiana in a closer than expected win. Let's say Indiana by 5.
No. 3 Pittsburgh vs No. 6 California – Brandon Knight had 17 points and nine assists and showed no signs of any lingering effects of a tendon injury that sidelined him in the big East Conference final as Pitt rolled over Central Connecticut State. Cal beat Penn and now has to face another home-crowd favorite. Cal is a better team, but Pitt has the homecourt advantage and that might be the difference. Might heart tells me the Bears can win this game, but common sense say the Panthers by two.
