Game Talk: Do you know the way to San Jose

ALBUQUERQUE, NM--The Wildcats didn't make it easy, but they advanced to the Sweet 16 with a 68-60 win over Wyoming. Ariona was held under 70 for only the third time all season. Notes and quotes from the post game press conferences.

*With his last two free throws, Jason Gardner moved past Sean Rooks for 10th All-Time on the Wildcat scoring list.

"I didn't know that," Gardner said of the record. "I've had a great career. A lot has to do with Coach ‘O' I came here as a little person and now I am a grown man. A lot of that has to do with the guy sitting next to me (Olson)."

*The Wildcats return to the Sweet 16 despite losing four starters off of last year's National Runner-up team.

"It feels real good to get to the Sweet-16," Gardner said "There is no better feeling than that."

*Despite the fact that the team had five freshman Luke Walton was not worried about this club.

"From the beginning of the year when I met these guys I knew they were winners," Walton said.

*Channing Frye was pivotal in the game scoring 18 points and snagging 11 rebounds.

"Coach tells me to stop being a ham sandwich (soft player) in practice," Frye said. "I need to be productive on the boards and be a presence on defense and I was today."

"Channing can be as good a big man as we've ever had through the time that I've been at Arizona," Olson said. "The big thing with him is for him to stay focused on what needs to be done. Sometimes you can see that he loses some of that aggression and when he does he's not half the player that he is when he's attacking the shooter. He had five blocked shots, but he affected more, a whole lot more."

*Arizona has played 22 games decided by 10 points or less, going 16-6.

"Our guys get competitive," Lute Olson said. "There's no question this season was the most difficult from an anxiety standpoint…The young guys just competed hard. They've gotten better and we've had tremendous leadership from our juniors in terms of development."

*Wyoming was the only team from the Mountain West to make it to the second round.

"I couldn't be prouder of our team and how we represented the Mountain West Conference," Steve McClain said. "I think to come out here and beat the No. 6 team in the country and fight the No. 7 team as hard as we did, I think we established that Wyoming basketball is going to be around for a while."

*Arizona next travels to San Jose to play in the Compaq Center, home of the NHL's San Jose Sharks. This season the Wildcats are 7-0 in NHL arenas. They won games at America West Arena, Madison Square Garden, the Staples Center and the Pond in Anaheim.

*Arizona is now 7-1 in their last eight NCAA Tournament games.

*The Wildcats out-rebounded Wyoming 38-37, but were beaten on the offensive glass 13 times. Arizona had 12 offensive rebounds.

*This marks Arizona's 10th appearance in the Sweet 16.

*The Wildcats have won six straight, their longest win streak of the year.

*The Cats hit four of its five three-point attempts, then missed its last eight.
