Cats fall again

For the first time since the 2000 season the Arizona softball team lost two games in a row. The Cal Bears swept the Wildcats with a 2-1 win in Berkeley.

A Courtney Scott single drove in the first run of the game. With two runners on the shot to left field allowed Kaleo Eldredge to score from second rom second.

A Jennie Finch solo shot in the fourth tied the game for the Cats.

Candace Harper hit a solo homerun off of Arizona sophomore Jenny Gladding for the eventual game winning run. Gladding took the loss and dropped her record to 16-5. Arizona is now 41-7, 8-3 in Pac-10 play.

Cal won the first game of the series 5-2, giving Jennie Finch just her second loss of the season.

Cal took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when freshman Jessica Pamanian hit a two-run homer to left field.

The Cats came back in the fifth inning. Sophomore Mackenzie Vandergeest singled to center field to reach base. Freshman Jackie Coburn hit a two-run home run to left center, her 11th home run of the season.

Cal took the lead in the fifth inning when they scored three runs. Junior Kristen Morley reached base when she singled to second base and advanced to second when senior Candace Harper was tagged out at first base. Morley advanced to third when Finch intentionally walked junior Veronica Nelson. Junior Courtney Scott doubled to left field to score Morley. Freshman Chelsea Spencer doubled to left field and Scott and Nelson scored.

Finch (24-2) struck out five batters and gave up eight hits. Cal pitcher, Kelly Anderson (6-3) struck out two batters and gave up two hits.  California improved to 41-14 while Arizona fell to 41-6, 8-2 in the Pac-10.
