Grid Report: Tui to start, injury report

It should come to no surprise to anyone who watched Saturday night's game, but the Wildcats' officially named Willie Tuitama as the new starting quarterback. Tuitama had a solid performance off the bench against Oregon and will take the first snaps against Oregon State.

Arizona pulled Tuitama out of his redshirt with no promises of playing time. After his performance against the Ducks he will now get the call as the Cats head up to Corvallis for a showdown with Oregon State.

"Willie will be our starting quarterback," Mike Stoops said. "I thought Willie made some great throws and really showed signs of being a tremendous player.

Tuitama relieved starter Richard Kovalcheck following a first quarter interception and rallied the team from a 21-0 deficit to tie the game before a late fumble led to a defensive score and the Oregon win.

"Willie has a tremendous future if he continues to progress," Stoops said. "I thought he came in and showed his spirit and the competitive edge to him."

Tuitama was 18-34 for 182 yards and two touchdowns. INJURY UPDATE

Punter Danny Baugher was injured Saturday night trying to advance a blocked punt. He tore ligaments in his knee and will not play in a Wildcat uniform again.

"A sad way for a kid to end his career," Stoops said. "He has a bright future."

Both Syndric Steptoe and Brad Wood were knocked out of the Oregon game with head injuries. Wood will play, while Steptoe is questionable.

Kili Lefotu will not be so lucky. He has a serious ankle sprain and will miss the Oregon State game at the very least.

Paul Phillipp missed the Oregon game and his status for Oregon State is not yet known.

"He has never come back the way we wanted him to after the shoulder surgeries," Stoops said.

Stoops mentioned that Dane Krogstad may be re-evaluated prior to this weekend's game, but more than likely it will be no sooner than two weeks, and probably at least a month before the linebacker sees the field.
