Stud California D-End set for Tucson visit

With the imminent graduation of potential All Pac-10 defensive end Copeland Bryan the Wildcat coaches know that they need a replacement. So far the coaching staff has sent out a few offers to high school defensive ends and one of them will be in town this weekend for his official visit to Tucson.

Clovis, California standout end Chris Lewis will be in Tucson this Saturday for his second official visit and according to Lewis, he is looking forward to the visit.

"I went to Arizona State last weekend and it was fun," said the 6-foot-3 inch, 250 pound Lewis. "They showed me a very good time and I feel that I got along real well with everybody down there. I am going to Tucson this weekend and I am really looking forward to it."

Lewis is being recruited by UA linebacker coach Tim Kish and he is also in contact with head coach Mike Stoops and his would be position coach Joe Robinson.

"Coach Kish is just a real cool guy you know," said Lewis. "I talk to him all the time, he calls me once a week and I call him once in a while. When I talk to him he lets me talk to Coach Stoops and Coach Robinson and they are both really cool guys too. You can tell that they are really serious about their football."

Lewis admits that he does not know very much about the Tucson campus but said that he knows the academics are good and the program is definitely turning the corner.

"They have first rate academics I know that much," he said. "The coaches send me academic information all the time and all of their rankings and everything. I have watched them a little bit this year and the team is ready to turn the corner for good. You can see how close they are to really being a good football team."

In the end the Cats may have an ace in the hole in his recruitment. Lewis' has a cousin on the roster at Arizona.

"Yeah, Chris Henry is my cousin," he said. "I actually have to call him to talk to him again. I am looking forward to seeing him again. Coach Kish said that he may be one of my hosts but that I will most likely be hosted by the quarterback Willie Tuitama and the corner Antoine Cason. It should be a fun trip and a good game."

UCLA, Arizona State, Fresno State, Oregon and Colorado are among other schools that Lewis is looking at that have offered. He said at this early stage that no one school sticks out above another just yet.

"Really I like them all," he said. "I really liked Arizona State but they are my only visit so far. I don't have any other visits set up yet but I want to take all of them before I decide."

Cat Tracks will keep you up to date on Lewis' recruitment and we will check in with Chris on Sunday to see how his visit to Tucson went.
