Cats Land SoCal Duo

Generally when a 2-6 team upsets a top five team in the fashion that Arizona did yesterday it helps that team in recruiting. The Wildcat coaches hosted three young men on official visits this weekend and they got to witness the 52-14 drubbing of UCLA first hand, but it is two prospects that who were not in town that have pulled the trigger and are Wildcats.

This past summer the coaches welcomed a set of twins to the Arizona Elite camp and they liked what they saw. Ricky Elmore and Cory Elmore performed well enough at the camp to both garner offers from Arizona. The twins returned to Tucson for the Purdue game as unofficial visitors and now the twins from Simi Valley, California are Arizona Wildcats.

Since Cory was out with friends tonight, Ricky took some time to explain the duo's commitment.

"Yes we committed a little bit ago," said Ricky, who plays defensive end. "All of the coaches were real excited that we committed. Coach (Mike) Stoops was real excited and he said that he was happy that Cory and I were Wildcats. He said he was happy for us and then he welcomed us to the Wildcat family."

Both of the twins were recruited by Arizona wide receivers coach Charlie Williams and both hit it off real well with their lead recruiter.

"Oh man, Coach Williams is such a great guy," remarked Elmore. "He is real cool and is just a really respectful guy. "

Ricky's to-be position coach at Arizona got to talk to Ricky during the commitment phone call and Ricky said he was very excited to hear the news.

"Coach (Joe) Robinson is such a good coach," he said. "When we were there this summer Coach Robinson and I really hit it off. I can't wait to get there to see what he can do with me."

Since they have only taken one official visit, to Wyoming, and had at least one more set up, to Utah, why did the twins decide to commit now?

"Well, Cory and I have been talking about it for a couple of days now," said Ricky. "This afternoon we just sat down as a family and talked about it for about a half an hour and we decided that Arizona was where we wanted to be. We are both very excited about it. We get to play together in college and we both are really looking forward to going to Arizona. Our parents are very happy about it too."

Ricky continued, "Arizona has always been my favorite, ever since the camp. One thing that really stood out was after they lost to Purdue, in the locker room afterwards, Coach Stoops was not yelling at anyone or anything. He was a real calming influence and was really positive about what he saw that night. He seemed to really have the team's attention at a rough time."

How much affect did the clobbering of UCLA have on their decision?

"Like I said before, I was pretty sure Arizona was where I wanted to go," he said. "But after that game, any doubt at all was completely gone. Arizona is on its way up."

CatTracks would like to welcome the Elmore twins to the University of Arizona!!
