Ndudi Ebi comes to town Thursday night

Ndudi Ebi, one of the top ten prospects in the entire class of 2003, will arrive in Tucson on Thursday night for his first of five official visits around the nation. The 6-10 wing forward from Houston will stay in town until Sunday morning and he said that he is excited to see the campus and what the University of Arizona in general has to offer.

After two outstanding performances at both the Boo Williams and Kingwood Classic tournaments this spring, Ebi's stock has soared. In fact, he has elevated his value to the point where most believe the nation's two preeminent basketball programs, Arizona and Duke, will be battling for his commitment the rest of the way.

"I'm looking forward to seeing the campus down there," Ebi said of Arizona. "I can't wait to talk with coach (Lute) Olson and see how the situation would be for me. I think that it's still wide open but I'm liking Arizona right now."

The multi-dimensional Ebi is so versatile that he can leave those that watch him play wondering if he's more of a wing with perimeter skills or more of an inside presence that attacks the glass. The general consensus is that he does both equally well…and more.

"I think that my game progresses daily," Ebi said. "I don't measure myself everyday or anything but last time I checked I was 6-10 and 190-pounds. But I feel a lot stronger than 190. I just do whatever I can to be able to run faster, jump higher and make myself better for playing basketball."

The junior from Houston has only scheduled one visit for the spring and that's this weekend to Arizona. He says that the other four schools (which he wouldn't disclose) all want him to come in during the fall. There's little doubt that two of those final four schools will be Duke and his hometown Texas Longhorns. The other two might be inconsequential. When asked if his waiting until fall to visit the other schools pretty much ensured not committing until that part of the year, Ebi was very matter of fact with his answer.

"That doesn't ensure anything," he said. "I'm going to just know when I know and then I'll make the decision at that point. When I come down (this weekend) I know I'm going to find out a lot. They better just be straightforward with me."
