DeLa Takes in Tucson, Leaves a Cat

The huge weekend that the Arizona coaching staff was hoping for is beginning to come to fruition. With the commitments of James Tretheway and Terrell Reese yesterday to the Cats it brought the total to 14 public commitments. What fans don't know is that Arizona actually landed another 4-Star player last night that had originally wanted to keep his commitment quiet.

Fairfield, California 4-Star wide receiver Delashaun Dean called his lead recruiter last night and committed to Arizona. Originally Dean wanted to keep it quiet until after his scheduled in home visit with Mike Stoops but as it usually does, it has gotten out.

"I called Coach (Tim) Kish and committed to him tonight," Dean told CatTracks late last night. "I told him that I wanted to be a Wildcat and he was really excited. I did tell him that it is just a soft verbal for right now but I know I am going there. Coach (Mike) Stoops is supposed to be in my house on Wednesday night and it will be solid then."

Dean was one of the 15 official visitors that were in Tucson this past weekend and he says that the trip could not have gone any better.

"Oh man, the trip was awesome, it went great, I loved every minute of it," he said. "Willie was my host and he is just a cool dude. We clicked right away man; he is a real cool dude. Everybody down there was wonderful really. My mother went with me and loved everything and everyone too. They really could not have done a better job of hosting us."

One of the reasons that Dean wanted to wait till Wednesday to firm up his commitment to Arizona is his relationship with Mike Stoops and something they have in common.

"Yeah, we share the same birthday and it is Tuesday," he said laughing. "So when he is here I want to firm things up and we can have a birthday celebration or something. Coach Stoops is a real good guy. He told me that I was their top guy for receiver and I like how they stuck with me after my injury and everything. All the schools that stuck with me were cool, but Coach Stoops and Coach Kish were great."

While in Tucson Dean also got to meet with his future position coach in Charlie Williams and he says that they ‘hit it off'.

"Coach Williams is my kind of guy," he said laughing again. "He is a cool dude too; all of the coaches are great. We watched some film and spent some time together and I just really like him, he is a good dude. We really hit it off and he is a guy I want to play for."

Dean admitted that before his trip he was pretty sure about where he wanted to go but he wanted the trip to cement things for him, and it did just that.

"I kind of knew that I wanted to go to Arizona but I wanted the trip to make sure," he said. "I had an amazing trip and I was sold from the start. The trip was everything I wanted and more and it is great. The city is great, the campus and the coaches; it is really a great situation."

We knew we did not have to ask but we had to ask Dean to rate his visit on a scale of 1-10 and his answer was no surprise.

"Oh man, a ten for sure," he said laughing again. "If I could go higher I would give it a 12 or something, it was great."

Delashaun went on to give his opinion of the future of Arizona Football and gave more of his thoughts on Willie Tuitama.

"Willie is the ringleader man," said Dean. "I am confident in Willie and we are gonna set it off down there for sure. The future at Arizona definitely awesome and it is going to be great for us."

Dean was scheduled to visit Arizona State this coming weekend but he says that he is not going to make that visit.

"No, I am not going to visit Arizona State," he said. "I am done with my visits and I am going to Arizona."

Dean is the 15th public commitment for the Wildcats in a recruiting class that is quickly gaining ground in the national recruiting rankings. Before Dean the Cats had 14 commitments and were ranked 23rd nationally and Dean and his deserved four stars will only help the class.
