Early List For Andy Poling

Andy Poling, 6-10 SO C Portland (Ore.) Westview, is currently the top-rated center in the West Coast class of 2008. Poling has an advanced low-post game for a sophomore and, overall, a very good feel for the game. He's still somewhat slender, but he's got a good frame and should fill out well. With continued development, we expect Poling to be one of the elite centers in the national class of 2008.

We spoke with Poling recently to get his early thoughts on his recruitment.

"Gonzaga, Arizona, Washington, Oregon State and UCLA are probably the ones I'm considering the most right now," said Poling. "They've all been out to see me at games or practices this year."

We asked Poling what factors would be important to him in choosing a school.

"How I feel about the school, somewhere that I fit in," said Poling. "Someplace with a good staff and good team chemistry. All of the schools I mentioned are in the west, so I'll probably stay on the West Coast."

We asked Poling if early playing time is a big deal for him.

"No, that won't be a factor," said Poling.

Poling has already been to a few of the schools he's considering. He was at the UCLA camp last June and he's visited Gonzaga, Washington and Oregon State. He said he plans on going to Arizona's camp next summer.

Poling isn't looking to rush into a decision.

"I'll decide sometime before my senior year, so I don't have to worry about it," said Poling.

Poling told us he currently has a 3.5 GPA.

CAT TRACKS' ANALYSIS: 2008 is a long ways off, but Arizona will be looking for quality big men and Poling is better then just "quality". He has a long way to go, but he improves each time I've seen him. He and San Diego's Jeff Withee are two of the top West Coast big men in the class and both like Arizona, so that bodes well.
