Williamsville (New York) North High School stud tight end Rob Gronkowski was in Tucson this weekend on what was his second visit to the Old Pueblo.
"It went pretty good," said the 6-foot-6 inch Gronkowski. "I got there on Friday night and I came home today, on Sunday morning. I toured the campus and got to talk to the coaches quite a bit and we went to the basketball game."
While in Tucson, Gronkowski said that he mainly hung out with one of the younger players.
"I mostly hung around with Adam Grant," he said. "He is the big red shirt freshman offensive tackle. He is a good kid and he is fun to hang around with. We went out and saw some of the other players and I had a good time."
Throughout the recruitment of the entire 2006 class the main name that popped up as far as current players hanging around was Willie Tuitama. Gronkowski said that while he did not hang out with the young quarterback, he did meet him.
"I met Willie and he seemed nice," he said. "I mainly hung around Adam and some of the other linemen. I don't really remember their names but Willie seemed like a good guy."
One thing that could aid Arizona in the Gronkowski sweepstakes is the fact that he has a friend that lives in Tucson and attends the University.
"I also hung out with my friend from up here," said Gronkowski. "He is from here and we played basketball together. He is a sophomore at Arizona. He showed me around and told me how he liked living out there."
Just a few weeks ago Mike Stoops hired his third tight end coach in his short tenure at Arizona. Rob said that he got a chance to meet with Dana Dimel.
"Coach Dimel seemed like a really good guy," he said. "He seems like he is a good coach and he is a nice guy. I talked to Coach (Mike) Stoops quite a bit too and I like him. He is a really good guy and is a good coach."
Rob went on to say that he wants to major in Business in college, with an emphasis in Real Estate and he got to talk to some academic people while in town.
"I talked to one guy from the Business school," Rob said. "I want to major in Business so it was good to talk to him. I know they have one of the best programs in the country so I can't really go wrong with going there."
Gronkowski has three written offers from Arizona, Maryland and Syracuse. He is also hearing from, and has interest in, Miami, Notre Dame and USC. Rob has two brothers that play tight end at Maryland and his father is an alumnus of Syracuse University.
