West Coast Schools On Amoke

Omondi Amoke, a talented junior wing from Oxnard (Calif.) is looking to prove that he's better than he showed last summer when he was injured. Several Pac-10 programs, among others, are looking at the junior wing...

Omondi Amoke, 6-5 JR SF Oxnard (Calif.) High, is having an excellent junior season. Oxnard is still alive in the CIF Southern Section playoffs and Amoke is a big part of the equation.

Amoke struggled last summer after suffering an ankle injury and he's anxious to play this spring and summer in front of college coaches. He told us he likely won't make a decision until after the summer, so that coaches will be able to see what he can do when healthy.

When asked about the schools that have been recruiting him, Amoke said, "Definitely UCLA, USC, Cal, Washington, Oregon and Utah. I feel like I'm forgetting another school. Most of the Pac-10 has been in contact."

We asked Amoke which schools have been out to see him recently.

"USC was out today at practice. Cal was supposed to be out today, but they have a game in Washington on Thursday."

We asked Amoke if any schools stand out from the pack.

"No, they're all still in a group," said Amoke.

When questioned about scholarship offers, Amoke replied, "None of them have offered yet, but a few seem pretty close."

CAT TRACKS' ANALYSIS: As it stands right now the Cats do not seem like they are going to take another wing in the 2007 class, but that could change if it seems like a current player will leave early, the Amoke could be among those to get a look.

The Cats were out to see Amoke a few times over the spring and summer as he was an AAU teammate of Alex Jacobson and Alex Stepheson. He hurt his ankle early in the AAU season, so he has not been properly evaluated while 100%. If the Cats decide they need a wing, expect Amoke to at least be evaluated by the staff.
