Darnell Gant, 6-8 JR PF Los Angeles (Calif.) Crenshaw, is one of the top prospects in the West Coast class of 2007. Gant is the kind of prospect that gets scouts and coaches excited. He's got a great bball body, very good athleticism and a high skill level. He's better on the perimeter than playing on the low block, but he should eventually be able to play inside as well.

We spoke with Gant recently and asked him about the programs he's been hearing from to date.

"UCLA, Washington, Texas, North Carolina, Oregon, Arizona, Arizona State, UConn…a few other Big East teams also," said Gant.

We asked which schools have offered at this time.

"UCLA is the only offer right now," said Gant. "Oregon said they're going to offer and Texas also said they will offer."

We asked Gant what he's looking for in a school.

"Just someplace where I can see myself fitting in," said Gant. "I've been thinking about staying close to home." When questioned about the timing of his decision, Gant said, "Probably not in the next couple months. Probably sometime during the summer."

Gant told us he has a 2.7 GPA.

WILDCAT INSIDER SLANT: Gant burst on the scene last spring and has intrigued folks since. At that time it sounded as if Gant's family wanted him to leave the Los Angeles area but now that may not be the case. The Cats have been calling and I would be shocked if they are not out on the recruiting trail keeping an eye on him.
