Final 2006 West Rankings: Small Forwards

The Pac-10 cleans up with the 2006 West Coast small forward class. Several of the top prospects in the group are headed to the Pac-10...

The small forwards in the west for 2006 are a talented group. Pondexter is a very explosive athlete. His ball skills have improved in the last year and he's also a potentially great defender. He gets the nod at the top spot due primarily to his upside. His shot needs work, but it isn't bad and he has the highest ceiling of any player on this list. Budinger is a big-time leaper and a good shooter to the stripe. His defense needs work -- not great laterally -- and he'll have to improve his ability to put the ball on the floor. But he's a good catch and shoot guy if given space and he has deep range. Tarver really stepped up from where he was last July. He showed an improved shot and he's become an excellent passer. We expect Tarver to make an immediate impact at Oregon State. Wallace had a solid senior season after a disappointing summer. He's a very good athlete, with solid all-around ball skills. He moves well laterally and has a chance to be a very good defender. He'll need to improve his focus and intensity, though, if he's to be successful at the next level. Nelson is a very good shooter with deep range. He's a good athlete with some bounce, but needs to improve his rebounding. Defense is also an area that needs improvement.
