Offers For Viney

Drew Viney is among the top wings in the west for 2007 and he has numerous high major programs recruiting him. A couple Pac-10 programs are at the top of his list...

Drew Viney, 6-7 JR SF Villa Park (Calif.) High, is one of the better forwards in the West Coast class of 2007. Viney has a pretty stroke with deep range and he's also improved his ability to score inside. In the past, Viney has shown a tendency to float to the perimeter, but he did a good job this past weekend in Las Vegas of rebounding and converting opportunities around the basket. Viney has a good frame and he should ultimately fill out well.

We spoke with Viney in Las Vegas and asked about the schools that are recruiting him.

"Cal, Washington, Arizona, Arizona State and I've been starting to hear from Syracuse and Duke," said Viney.

We asked if any schools lead for him at this time.

"Cal and Washington are probably the top two," said Viney. "They've been recruiting me the hardest."

When asked if any school has offered a scholarship, Viney replied, "Cal, Washington and Arizona State have offered."

Viney said he doesn't see himself making a decision soon.

"I'm going to wait until the end of summer before I decide," said Viney.

Viney told us he has a 3.0 GPA.

WILDCAT INSIDER SLANT: Will the Cats offer Viney? They seem to want another shooter in the class and Viney can stroke the ball. Expect the Cats to keep watching Viney over the summer in an effort to evaluate him.
