Mike Ebbitt update

Defensive end Mike Ebbitt is a big time player, with big time offers. He's getting looks from all over the country and seems open to teams from a variety of locales. He's listing a leader among his top four but it sounds as if there is still some legs left to his recruitment.

Westlake Village (Calif.) defensive end Mike Ebbitt (6-5, 250, 4.9) from Oaks Christian High School said that he slightly favors Texas A&M over Miami, Colorado and Arizona.

"I visited A&M about three weeks ago and I liked how they recruited me. I got to sit down and talk with the head coach and the defensive line coach toured me around the campus. They said they like my pass rush and my size," Ebbitt said.

"Before all this football stuff began, my parents wanted to move to Texas, because my whole family lives out there. If I go to A&M or Miami, my parents will move to Texas to shorten their traveling time to see me. If I went to Colorado or Arizona, they would probably stay in California.

"I hope to visit Miami this summer. I like their program because they've won a couple of national championships and the school just has a lot of prestige.

"I've visited Colorado and they've got one of the best head coaches I have met so far--(Dan) Hawkins," Ebbit said.

"I like Arizona because it's in the Pac-10. Their head coach, (Mike) Stoops, has a defense mentality--he's a defensive kind of guy and since I play defensive end, I like his thinking. He's been at Arizona for three years now, so all the guys that still have the previous coach's teachings will be out of the school by the time I'm a freshman--then the whole team will have been taught by Stoops.

"Hopefully, I will make a decision right before the season starts. I pay a lot of attention to how the coaches stay in contact with me and their recruiting techniques," he said.
