Cats finalize Canada trip

The Arizona men's basketball team has finalized plans for a preseason trip to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The four-day tour begins Friday, Sept. 1.

The 2006-07 Wildcats will depart Tucson on Sept. 1 for Vancouver. A total of five games are scheduled for the trip – two each on Sept. 2 and 3 and a single game on Sept. 4 – before returning to Tucson.

Four games will be against Canadian college teams and one against a collection of local players. A complete schedule is listed below:

Saturday, Sept. 2

Noon PDT Arizona vs. University of Saskatchewan (at University of British Columbia)

7 p.m. Arizona at University of British Columbia

Sunday, Sept. 3

Noon Arizona vs. Vancouver All-Stars (at Simon Fraser University)

7 p.m. Arizona at Simon Fraser University

Monday, Sept. 4

9 a.m. Arizona vs. University of British Columbia (at Douglas College)

A total of 14 players will make the trip, eleven returning lettermen and three incoming freshmen. NCAA rules permit a total of 10 practices prior to a foreign tour. Arizona's first such practice leading up to this trip will take place on Monday, Aug. 21.

Set to begin his 34th season as a collegiate head coach, and his 24th at Arizona, Lute Olson owns a career record of 761-269 (.739). This tour marks the sixth foreign excursion for Olson and the Wildcats. Previously, the program has made trips to Europe (1985, 1989) and Australia (1993, 1997, 2002). Arizona's cumulative record on foreign tours is 36-17 (.679).
