Alex Zendejas is a Cat

For years the Arizona Wildcat football program has been known for having very good special teams play year in and year out. After taking a couple of years off from playing solid special teams Arizona hired Mike Stoops to head the program and he in turn hired Special teams guru Joe Robinson and the Arizona Special Teams have become special yet again.

Under Joe Robinson's coaching the Wildcat special units have rebounded and are now ranked in the top 30 nationally in literally every special teams category that the NCAA keeps a statistic.

Always looking ahead now that kicker Nick Folk is a senior it is time to go get the best kicker to replace him and the Cats have found their man, with a familiar name.

Glendale Ironwood kicker Alex Zendejas has been the top kicker in the state of Arizona for two years running. As a senior this year he has been impressive as he set a record by nailing a 59 yard field goal. Zendejas also kicked over 80% of his kick offs into the end zone and had a great year punting for his Ironwood team. A couple days ago Alex got an offer that he could not wait to accept.

"U of A offered me and I was really excited," Zendejas said. "I didn't really have to think about it that long but I talked to my family and I called Coach (Tim) Kish and committed the same day."

Growing up in Phoenix with famous family members that kicked for both U of A and ASU it is no wonder which school Alex grew up rooting for.

"I always rooted for both of them to be honest," he said. "I always wanted to go to U of A because I just really like it in Tucson but I did grow up liking both."

Zendejas was recruited by Arizona Linebackers Coach Tim Kish, who serves as the Wildcats' lead recruiter in the Phoenix area.

"I like Coach Kish, he is a really good guy," commented Alex. "He is a real honest guy and he was real excited when I called and committed. I am looking forward to getting down there."

Alex went on to say that does not know when he will take his official visit to the U but he will be in attendance at the annual game with ASU this saturday.

"Are you kidding me, I have to go down to the game," he said with a laugh. "I can't miss that one any year but especially after I just committed to U of A."

Zendejas will have no problem qualifying and he said that he is not sure what he wants to major in.
