Cats land one

In a day that saw one local product choose a conference rival, not all the news was bad. It appears if the Wildcats have landed a solid defensive prospect.

According to sources close to the recruitment, Rosenberg, TX defensive end LaVar Brown has verbally committed to the Wildcats.

Later in the night his mother confirmed that LaVar did indeed commit to the Wildcats.

Brown, Scout.com's #43 ranked defensive end, was slated to meet with Wildcat coaches on Thursday.

The cousin of former Nebraska standout Broderick Thomas, Brown describes himself as an "aggressive" player.

Brown visited Arizona back in late September and was impressed with how the Wildcats used their ends.

"The defensive ends always line up in a 5 or a 6," he said. "That is what we always do at Lamar and that is what I am very comfortable with doing. Coach (Joe) Robinson is a really cool guy and all of his players really respect him. He knows the game and he really knows defense and he showed me a lot about how their defense works."

WildcatInsider will catch up with Brown this evening to confirm the commitment.
