"Overall it was just a great feel and comfort level at Arizona," Rob said of his decision. "I really like all of the coaches out there and I love where the program is heading. I have known that is where I wanted to go for a while."
Rob did not use one of his five allotted official visits on Arizona because he said that he did not feel the need to use one.
"I have been out there a bunch of times and I love it out there," he said. "I was out there for the Cal game and that was one hell of a time. Rushing the field and everything was awesome. I really like where the program is going and that game just provided proof that it is going in the right direction."
One of the things that solidified his decision to become a Wildcat was an in home visit with new Arizona Offensive Coordinator Sonny Dykes.
"Sonny Dykes came for an in home visit and it went great," Rob said. "He told me about how he wanted me and wanted to use me in his offense. He said he needed a big time tight end for his offense and that I was his man. I know I will fit in with the offense real well."
When WI.com spoke to Rob he had yet to speak to the coaching staff about his decision but he knew they were watching his announcement.
"I know they were all waching in Mike Stoops' office," he said. "I will talk to them soon but I know they are as excited as I am."
Gronkowski was recruited by ace UA recruiter Tim Kish and the two hit it off from the get go according to Rob.
"Coach Kish is a great guy," remarked Rob. "From the start we had a good relationship and we always talked a lot. We hit it off right away and he played a big role in why I am going to Arizona. He was always honest and straight up and it helps that he is a funny guy and a great coach."
Gronkowski is the 14th public commitment for the class of 2007 for the Arizona Program. With an estimated 21 scholarships to give for this class that leaves just seven slots for this year's class. Rob is also the fourth four star commitment in the class.
