Cats lose one staffer, add another

It is the time of year where you expect to add players to the program. With signing day just a few weeks out the Cats are hitting the recruiting trail hard. But it is not just players they are recruiting, the Cats are adding coaches as well. In fact, they just might need to add a few more.

One staff member has already left the program. Recruiting coordinator Dan Berezowitz has left Arizona to take a similar position at Minnesota. He becomes one of the first hires for new Gopher coach Tim Brewster.

Bereowitz and Brewster worked together at North Carolina and Texas.

Berezowitz has served as the Cats' recruiting coordinator since the John Mackovic era when he replaced Rob Ianello.

He may not be the only coach leaving. Defensive coordinator Mark Stoops is a candidate for the head coaching job at Rice. The Houston Chronicle reported that Stoops was interested and it appears as if he will interview for the position. The Athletic Director at Rice is Chris Del Conte, a former associate AD at Arizona.

Sources differ on just how interested Stoops would be in the job. Many in coaching circles feel that with another solid year by the Arizona defense that Stoops could be a hot commodity for jobs next year.

While there is nothing concrete, sources indicate that at least one more Wildcat assistant could be considering a move.

The Cats did add a member to the staff. David Nichol will assume the role of offensive graduate assistant for the Wildcats. He has held similar positions at Texas Tech and this past season at Baylor. He is a former Texas Tech wide receiver and has coached with new Wildcat offensive coordinator Sonny Dykes.
