Down the stretch they come

Down the stretch they come! With less than a week until signing day the Wildcats still have a lot of recruiting to do.

As of Thursday morning it looked as if the Wildcat football class could go out with a bit of a whimper. Their best prospect left on the board, DT Kaniella Tuipulotu was quoted as saying that USC was now very much in the picture.

That changed by that afternoon as Tuipulotu pledged to the Wildcats, giving them another four-star recruit.

With just a handful of players left on the board, let's look at what the Cats have and what they are still looking at.

The Wildcats currently have 16 known commitments and has awarded two scholarships to walk-ons. They will likely give out 4-5 more scholarships, although it is possible that they could hold a few into the spring and summer looking for players who slipped through the cracks.

Quarterback Bryson Beirne is in the fold and with Jimmy Bevell walking on, it does not look like the Cats have any additional interest in scholarship quarterbacks.
Additional Targets: None known.

Running Back Nicholas Grigsby was one of the first players to commit in the class and Joseph Reese joined the fold after originally committing to Texas A&M. Both are three star kids and rated in the top-100 for their position, with Reese coming in at 42. Arizona also awarded walk-on Chris Jennings a scholarship. Add to that the report that junior college running back Tyreece Jacks is planning on walking on and the Wildcats.
Additional Targets: Aaron Harris(5-9, 182, 4.55), the three-star RB/DB from Baldwin Park, Calif., is still listing the Wildcats and says they are pursuing him as a running back, but feels that there could be a good chance he is converted to DB if he were to commit to the Wildcats.

Wide Receiver The Cats have added a number of players at this spot and may not be done. David Roberts and Devin Veal both committed over the summer, though Veal looks destined to be a defensive back. The Cats recently received a commitment from sleeper prospect William Wright.
Additional Targets: Reggie Dunn (5-9, 160, Verbum Dei) is slated to visit this weekend.

Tight End Arizona got a huge get with Rob Gronkowski. The East Coast tight end is not only a top-5 player at the position, but he chose the Cats on national television.
Additional Targets: None known.

Offensive Linemen As of now Hawaiian Sione Tau is the only known offensive line commitment.

Additional Targets: Adam Tello seems to have ruled out the Wildcats. Although there aren't any big name prospects currently on the board, don't be shocked if some other players get a look late in the process.

Defensive Tackle Hans Phillip was one of the first players to commit and now Tuipulotu is the latest Wildcats to make the pledge.
Additional Targets: As of now there no known targets.

Defensive End Although a few of the prospects have position flexibility, Ron Jackson and Levar Brown seem to be the only players who are destined to remain at defensive end.
Additional Targets: Nai Fotu has been slated to visit for a few weeks now and is supposed to visit the Cats this weekend. He is a soft verbal to Utah, but Arizona could come on strong with the recent commitment of Tuipulotu.

Linebacker The Cats added two linebackers, both with the same last name. Cousins Vuna Tuihalamaka and Apaiata Tuihalamaka are both four-stare players. Vuna is a JC player with three years to play two, while Apaiata can also play DE.
Additional Targets: Right now there are no known targets.

Defensive Backs Marquis Hundley is already on campus, while Veal could be converted to DB.
Additional Targets: Although he is committed to Texas Tech, the Cats seem to be still pursuing Jared Flanel. Justin Salum is an athlete type who is still on the radar screen but does not appear to have a written offer yet.

Special TeamsAlex Zendejas, nephew of Max, will try to replace Nick Folk a kicker, while RS frosh Keenyn Crier earned a scholarship after walking-on last season.
Additional Targets: It is not believed that the Cats will extend scholarships to any other kicking specialists.

It is believed that the Wildcats may still be in contact with some players who have given verbal commitments to other schools. It would not be a shock if there are not a few surprises before signing day.
