Babbitt pulls the trigger a day early

Thursday morning, 6-8 forward Luke Babbitt of Reno Galena turned a somewhat anticlimactic announcement into a complete no-doubter. Babbitt, who has already been reported to commit to Ohio State at a Friday press conference, eliminated speculation when he told the Reno Gazette-Journal he is committed to Ohio State.

"I am 100 percent sure," he told the paper in Thursday's edition. "I can't see myself going anywhere else."

Babbitt told Scout.com early in the week that he's had his mind made up since right around the time of his unofficial visit to Ohio State in late January. He has already informed Ohio State, UCLA, Arizona, Nevada and Gonzaga of his decision to attend Ohio State.

Babbitt becomes the fifth player to commit to Ohio State for the 2008 class. The Buckeyes had commitments from players ranked No. 11 William Buford, No. 13 B.J. Mullens, No. 21 Anthony Crater and unranked Walter Offutt in the 2008 ScoutHoops.com rankings. Babbitt is No. 24 overall.

Sources say the family may be considering a move back to Ohio, which may have played a part in the decision. The family is from the state and lived there until Luke was 11 years old.

The Wildcats would still like to add two post players in the 2008 class. Players like Emanuel Negedu, Matt Simpkins and Drew Gordon are among those at the top of the Wildcat wish list.
