Several Cats out for spring

The Wildcats will be missing a few players as they head into spring practice. Three players will be held out of drills due to "personal issues:, while four others will be limited due to injuries.

Devin Ross, Michael Shelton and Adrian McCovy will miss Spring Practice for what Mike Stoops deemed as "personal issues". He did Ross, a sophomore cornerback was a prized recruit last year and played mostly on special teams last year. He was supposed to compete for playing time behind seniors Antoine Cason and Wilrey Fontenot and was also expected to be in the mix for kick off returns.

Shelton was pulled out of a prospective redshirt last season and was in the mix to back up Louis Holmes at defensive end. A true junior, Shelton has not redshirted and that seems to be a possibility.

"They will be excused from spring ball," Stoops confirmed.

When asked if the reason were disciplinary he merely stated "partly".

McCovy is another player who was supposed to be a factor as a back-up linebacker.

Four players will miss or be limited this spring due to injury.

Fontenot, Peter Graniello and Lionel Dotson all have shoulder injuries and will miss significant time.

Offensive lineman Adam Grant re-injured the knee that kept him out of action last season.

"To re-injure that knee was a setback," Stoops said of the sophomore linemen.

Stoops indicated that he did not know exactly when he re-injured the knee and the timetable for his return in early summer.

Walk-on punter Kyle McQuown left the team for spring drills. His long term status is not known at this time.
