Arizona hosted a number of recruits at the spring game, but it was one of the players who did not make it that they may have landed. For one big junior college defensive lineman, Arizona is the place he wants to play…probably.

College of the Desert defensive lineman Lonell Rice was supposed to visit for the spring game, but could not make the trip. That being said, he really likes the Wildcats.

"I've told them I am willing to sign with them," the 6-6, 300-pounder said.

Sounds like a verbal commitment, right? Not so fast. Rice says the Wildcats are his leader, but he isn't quite ready to say Tucson is the place for him.

"I wouldn't say that I verballed," Rice said. "Let's just say that I am leaning more towards going there."

Rice said that he could end the recruiting very soon. He wants to make a visit to Arizona and if he likes it, he'll commit and end the recruitment.

"If I like the atmosphere and the campus, that will be it," he said.

If he allows other schools to get involved, Oregon and Oregon State are best poised to challenge the Wildcats for his services, although Nebraska has started contacting him more.

He is being recruited by defensive line coach Mike Tuiasasopo and likes everything he has heard about the campus and the direction of the program.

"I took a long look at their program," Rice explained. "I like how they practice and how they prepare their athletes for games and beyond."

He is slated to be a fall transfer and prides himself on his intensity on the field.

"I play hard, I play fast," Rice said. "I've always got my motor running."
