Batcats off to Kansas

Arizona's hope for hosting a regional did not come to fruition. The Wildcats learned Monday that they will be shipped off to the Midwest to open the NCAA baseball tournament.

The Wildcats earned the second seed in the Wichita region. Host Wichita State will play fourth seeded New Orleans, while the Wildcat will face third-seeded Oral Roberts.

Arizona State was the lone Pac-10 team to host a regional. The Wildcats, Oregon State and UCLA were the lone Pac-10 teams to earn tournament bids.

The Wildcats put in a bid to host a regional. With 40-wins, a top-15 ranking and a second place finish in the Pac-10 they hoped to be one of 16 host teams.

The opening rounds are double elimination with the winner advancing to a best-of-three Super Regional to earn a spot in the College World Series in Omaha.
