"I'm really happy," Withey said of the commitment. "I have my family's backing me up. This is the best place for me."
Withey decommitted from Louisville earlier in the month, in part because of a desire to stay closer to his family in San Diego.
"It's close to home and I want my family to be able to see me play," Withey said. "Tucson is only a one-hour plane ride."
Withey has made prior visits to Tucson, but this past weekend's unofficial visit to Tucson was his first chance to really investigate the program more in-depth.
Although he has known the Wildcat staff since he was a freshman, he got to spend the entire weekend meeting with the coaching staff.
"You can't get any better than Coach O'Neil, Coach Olson, Coach Pastner and Coach Simon," Withey said. Withey is another piece of a recruiting class that has the potential to be one of the best in the nation. Although Withey is doing what is best for him personally, he is well aware of the players who he will be coming in with.
"Brandon Jennings is a great point guard, a pass first point guard," Withey said. "Because of who is coming in we have a great chance to win a national championship."
Although Withey originally pledged to Louisville, he insists this commitment is firm.
"Arizona is the best place for me," Withey concluded.
