Olson to take leave of absence

According to Arizona Media Relations, Athletic Director Jim Livengood will hold a 12:30 press conference to announce a leave of absence by head coach Lute Olson.

No reason was given by the University, but a few sources have indicated that the reason for the leave is not health related.

Olson was at the Arizona/UCLA basketball game and was interviewed on ABC television.

While rumors and speculation are floating around this situation, word is that Coach Lute Olson is dealing with an undisclosed "family matter" and that further details were not made available to the media.

During Olson's leave of absence, assistant coach Kevin O'Neill is expected to take over as the interim head coach.

Coach Lute Olson and Athletic Direction Jim Livengood sat down during and after yesterday's football game where they discussed the situation of Coach Olson taking a leave of absence.

There were no details given during the press conference as to what exactly is going on, but they did reiterate that it's a "personal family matter."

As to the current state of the basketball program, assistant coach Kevin O'Neill will take over on an interim basis as the basketball team's head coach. Also, no other changes will be made to the staff as everyone else will continue to resume their current roles.

Also, the team as a whole was notified Sunday morning about the situation.
