All-American to announce after season

It has been a very interesting recruiting season for the Arizona Wildcats. They got off to a flying start last summer, then tailed off and are now picking up steam. Now the Cats will find out their secondary future next month.

Fresno (CA) Edison cornerback Robert Golden originally committed to the Cats last spring as he wanted to play for Mike and Mark Stoops. Throughout the summer and the early part of the fall he was solid to the Cats and he was the best recruiter for the 2008 class as he called kids in attempts to help the Wildcats land the other best talent around.

But after the Cats struggled early in the season Golden was unsure of the future of head coach Mike Stoops so he decided to open up his recruitment again to make sure he had other options in case the man he wanted to play for no longer had a job. This past weekend Golden was in Tucson for his official visit to Arizona on Homecoming weekend and he got the news that he wanted to hear.

"I got a chance to sit down with Mike and it went real well," commented Golden. "I also got a chance to talk to the athletic director (Jim Livengood) and he told me that Mike just signed a three year contract and that he was going to be there. That is what I wanted to hear because that is the only reason I de-committed in the first place. I didn't know what was going to happen with Coach Stoops and I wanted to make sure that I had other options just in case because you never know."

While in Tucson Golden was hosted by a pair of freshman that are red shirting their first seasons in Tucson. Wide receiver Dave Roberts and cornerback Trevin Wade played host to Golden and they showed the Cali standout a good time.

"Trevin and Dave Roberts were my hosts," Golden said. "Trevin is a real cool guy and so is Dave. I have been down there so I knew about Trevin and Dave is a real funny dude."

When it comes to additional visits Golden said that he had one other visit scheduled but that he is no longer gong to follow through on that visit and that he is now done looking at other schools.

"I had a visit scheduled to UCLA but I am not going to go," he said. "I am going announce my decision between Arizona, Oregon State and UCLA on December 1st. I wanted to wait until after my season was over so I could concentrate on everything here first."

Golden went on to expand on the reason for his dcision to hold off announcing his final plans on a school.

"Man, I have schools and media calling non stop and it bothers me," he said honestly. "I was seriously thinking about changing my cell phone number again so nobody had it. I had coaches from Ole Miss at my school today trying to get me to visit on November 30th but I told them that I am not interested really and that I am announcing my final decision on December 1st."

Golden was selected to the Army All American Game that will be played in January in San Antonio, Texas. Golden said he is really looking forward ot the opportunity to compete with the rest of the best from around the country.

"I am really looking forward to that game and that experience," he said. "I can't wait to get there and compete against the best."

Golden is set to announce his decision on December 1st but he has yet to decide on how he will announce. He said that he will just most likely call the coaching staffs of his final three schools and then call the appropriate media outlets to get the news out.
