Wildcat Insider: How are things going as you approach your senior season of high school basketball?
Jeff Withey: Things are going well. We've already had a few practices which have gone well. I've just been running, lifting weights, and getting ready for the upcoming season. Our team looks real good for the upcoming season. We've got a lot of guys returning, and hopefully we can win a state championship.
Wildcat Insider: In what way do your coaches plan on using you in terms of the offensive side of the basketball, as well as the defensive side?
Jeff Withey: Well, I'm the first option on offense. Our team works from the inside out, but we have a lot of depth on our team. We're just going to pack it in, but also work from the outside too. My coach wants me to work inside the paint, but he also wants me to play out on the perimeter more, putting the ball on the floor and driving in.
Wildcat Insider: What things are you currently working on, and plan on working on in the future to get yourself physically ready to play at Arizona?
Jeff Withey: I just need to gain some weight, and continue to work hard. With my high school season beginning, I won't get to work out with Trent Suzuki very often, but I just want to continue perfecting my game. I'm just getting in the gym, shooting, and just continuing to get better.
Wildcat Insider: Do you intend on signing your letter of intent on Wednesday (today)?
Jeff Withey: Yep, I plan on signing it on Wednesday. Trent is going to come over to my house, my high school coaches are going to come over, and I'm going to sign it there. It's going to be a special time, and I'm pretty excited for it.
Wildcat Insider: Has Arizona approached you on how they plan on utilizing you next year as a freshman?
Jeff Withey: Yeah, they have. If I keep on improving and gaining weight, I hopefully will get a chance to start. They plan on using me as a shot blocker, but also a guy that can do some things offensively like shooting the ball.
Wildcat Insider: What part of your game do you feel is your biggest attribute? What do you feel you need to work on the most?
Jeff Withey: I think playing defense & being able to block shots is my biggest attribute. The things I need to work on the most are probably my ball handling skills, and my shooting skills. I've got to be able to shoot and put the ball on the floor to become the player that I want to be.
Wildcat Insider: What did you think of getting a chance to play with fellow 2008 commitment Brandon Jennings over the summer?
Jeff Withey: I liked it a lot. Brandon is probably the best point guard in our class, and he just makes you better when you play with him. I look forward to getting a chance to play with him at the U of A.
