2007 Bowl Scenario

There are a few different bowl scenarios and possibilities facing the Wildcats as they enter their annual tilt with the hated Sun Devils. We will take a look at each scenario as the games this weekend can jumble things tremendously.

Looking at Bowl scenarios is always fun but it is aggravatingly fun when dealing with the Pac-10's horrendous bowl tie in situation. The conference now has six automatic tie-ins and all of them will be filled this season. The one thing that I believe is definite is CAL, win or lose, will play in the Emerald Bowl. No matter the scenario it is likely the Emerald will invite the Bears due to ticket sales and overall fan draw.

Arizona must win to have a chance to go to a bowl game. The Wildcats best case scenario would be to have USC and Stanford win this weekend. The worst case scenario for Arizona would be to beat ASU but have UCLA win. If UCLA wins the Wildcats will most likely be staying home for a second straight year despite being bowl eligible.

If the Cats do indeed win, they are likely headed to the Las Vegas Bowl. The Vegas Bowl wants Arizona. They seem to really like the Arizona-BYU match-up and although they would normally be scared off by a weak traveling UA fan base, the Wildcat basketball program plays in Vegas three days before the Vegas Bowl, which makes it much more enticing for Wildcat fans to not only travel to Vegas, but to stay for a few days and spend some money in Sin City.

Let us look at the bowl situation based on who may or may not win in the Pac-10 this weekend.

Note: The Sun Bowl has a no repeat clause, meaning OSU could qualify but could be passed over for a lower qualifying Pac-10 team.

If you are an Arizona fan, on top of cheering for the Cats this weekend, you are now Trojan and Cardinal fans. The Civil War for Oregon bragging rights does not matter to Arizona fans this year. There is only a slight chance that, if bowl eligible, Arizona plays in the Armed Forces Bowl instead of the Vegas Bowl.

Like last year all Arizona fans are going through each scenario and debating and thinking about what could be. Hopefully, UNLIKE last year, the Wildcats actually do their part on the field and make the arguments and debates worth while.
