Coming up short

Jerryd Bayless missed a desperation three pointer at the buzzer and UCLA held on to win 68-66. Arizona was swept at home by the LA schools and now head to Oregon to finish the regular season.

Down three with less than 13 seconds to play, Bayless drove the lane and drew a foul. He made his first foul shot but missed the second. Two Bruins were in position for the rebound but the ball hit off of them and went out of bounds.

The Wildcats had a final chance to win or tie the game but Jawann McClellan had to inbound the ball to Kirk Walters. Walters found Bayless, but the freshman was triple teamed and did not get a good look at it.

Arizona trailed by as many as nine in the first half but battled back and trailed by just two at the half.

In the second half the Bruins repeatedly went to Kevin Love. The big man scored 15 second half points on his way to 24. He was a stellar 10-11 from the line and was able to get three Wildcats into foul trouble, including a Fendi Onobun foul out.

Jordan Hill was strong for the Wildcats. The sophomore big man had 18 points. He was 7-7 in the first half, but was just 1-4 in the second half.

Chase Budinger scored 26 points. He got off to a rough start but rallied with three buckets at the end of the first half and continued his good shooting in the second half.

Arizona faces Oregon State on Thursday night.
