First commitment for football

Arizona received their first commitment of the 2009 recruiting class. A running back from one of he nation's top football programs committed while making an unofficial visit.

Kylan Butler may play for California powerhouse De La Salle but he is not real well known. The 5-7, 180 pounder is unranked by but earned an offer from Arizona and jumped at the chance to choose a program.

"I committed to Arizona," Butler confirmed on Saturday.

Butler was in Tucson for the spring game and told the coaches before the scrimmage that he wanted to accept their scholarship offer.

He is not only the first player in the class, but the first to be recruited by new assistant coach Jeff Hammerschmidt.

He split time at tailback last year, amassing 928 yards and scoring 20 touchdowns.

Despite the very early timing of the commitment, Butler insists that he is solid.
