News, notes and stats

Arizona had seven players in double figures and outrebounded the Hilltoppers by 17. It was a great first outing for the Wildcat. Here are notes and stats from today's game.

BILL WALTON
Former UCLA All-American and Hall of Famer Bill Walton was in the crowd at McKale Center to watch his son Luke and Lute Olson, the newest member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, clobber Western Kentucky 107-68.

YOUNG GUNS
In their official debuts, three Arizona freshmen had good games. Hassan Adams led all scorers with 22 points, Andre Iguodala added 10. Chris Rodgers played a limited role but made his first shot attempt scoring two points.

NO MARCUS
All-American center Chris Marcus was listed as a game-time decision but did not play and playing looks to be a ways off. The 7-2 big man didn't suit up for the game, wearing a dapper suit on the Hilltopper bench.

NO SALIM
Salim Stoudamire did not play due to the lingering effects of a high ankle sprain. Iguodala got the call as the Wildcats went with three forwards.

HOT STARTS
Arizona has won their season opener for the eighth straight year. The last time they lost to open a season was in 1994 when they lost to Minnesota 72-70 at the Great Alaskan Shootout. The Wildcats are 17-3 in season openers under Lute Olson. It was also the Wildcats' home opener. Last year Kansas beat Arizona at McKale to open the home season.

GOOD ON THE GLASS
The Cats out-rebounded Western Kentucky 42-29, including 17-7 on the offensive boards.

CRUISE CONTROL
With the game in hand, Lute Olson rested senior Luke Walton and Rick Anderson. The pair played just seven and six minutes respectively.

SECOND HALF SURGE
Jason Gardner was scoreless at the half, missing both shot attempts, but finished the game with 12 points.

TURNOVERS
The Cats forced 28 turnovers, but coughed up the all 20 times. Including the two exhibition games, the Wildcats have forced 20+ turnovers three times.
